The historic Wunsche Bros Café & Saloon has officially earned the title of Texas’ Best Pork Chop, taking top honors in the inaugural Texas Best Pork Chop Competition hosted by the Texas Pork Producers Association (TPPA).

A Double-Cut Pork Chop Worth Celebrating

At the center of the celebration is Wunsche Bros’ signature Post Oak Smoked Double-Cut Pork Chop.

The dish earned the competition’s highest honor following anonymous judging based on taste, tenderness, creativity, presentation, and overall dining experience.

Post oak is a familiar flavor in Texas barbecue culture, prized for the smoky character it brings to slow-cooked meats. At Wunsche Bros, that tradition meets a substantial double-cut pork chop, creating a dish worthy of statewide recognition.

The winning pork chop also captured the attention of Texas diners.

Wunsche Bros received more than 630 votes to win the People’s Choice Pork Chop category and more than 670 votes to claim Best Casual Dining Pork Chop.

Together, the three awards establish Wunsche Bros as the inaugural competition’s most decorated restaurant.

A Historic Texas Restaurant With a New Culinary Title

Part of the appeal of dining at Wunsche Bros Café & Saloon is its setting in Old Town Spring, a destination known for its historic atmosphere, locally owned shops, and restaurants.

For visitors exploring the greater Houston area, the restaurant offers an opportunity to enjoy Texas hospitality and a pork chop that has earned recognition from both professional judges and the dining public.

The recognition also brings new opportunities for the restaurant’s culinary team.

Chef Hyman Sotello will receive an engraved chef’s knife sponsored by Zwilling, along with a commemorative plaque and official winner recognition.

Wunsche Bros will also serve as the Official Texas Pork Chef Ambassador for one year, representing the versatility and flavor of pork through the association’s marketing initiatives.

Texas Pork Producers Celebrate the Winning Restaurant

The Texas Pork Producers Association launched the competition to recognize restaurants serving outstanding pork dishes while encouraging Texans to explore the many ways pork can be prepared.

More than 400 Texans nominated their favorite restaurant pork chops during August, with 16 restaurants represented across the state.

“On behalf of the association, we would like to congratulate all of our finalists and thank them for their participation in this inaugural competition,” said Laura Jimenez, consumer marketing specialist for TPPA. “The support for the first year of the contest is a testament to the pork industry in Texas. We look forward to celebrating Texas restaurants and their pork dishes for many years to come.”

For pork lovers planning their next Texas food adventure, Wunsche Bros Café & Saloon has given them another reason to visit Old Town Spring.

After all, how often can you say you’ve ordered the best pork chop in Texas?
