About the Founder: Rachel Fishback

Pork Industry News was founded by Rachel Fishback, an Iowa farmer, agricultural journalist and longtime advocate for sharing the stories of the people who make agriculture possible.

Rachel Fishback grew up in southeast Iowa. As a child, her parents raised pigs outdoors in the 1970’s and 80’s on a family farm. Today, Rachel Fishback continues farming the family’s seventh-generation ground with her brother, raising corn and soybeans. With livestock, our grain has a home to go to that stays local and grows our economy and communities.

Rachel Fishback’s agricultural experience includes 18 years of custom farming and previously owning and operating wean-to-finish hog barns. She also spent four years working in livestock construction, providing firsthand experience with the buildings, equipment and infrastructure behind modern pork production.

Rachel Fishback raised her four children around agriculture, with her family by her side. From riding in farm equipment, to jumping hog barn gates, hand feeding wean pigs, choring barns daily and involved in showing pigs and 4-H. She has also spent 18 years serving as a 4-H leader and has been involved with agricultural organizations at the local and state level. Today, you might see her kids hauling grain, livestock or at an area pork event volunteering with their mom.

That background has given Rachel Fishback a perspective rooted in agriculture. She understands the decisions producers make, the challenges of operating a farm, the importance of animal care and the network of people and businesses required to keep pork production moving.

Pork Industry News combines that agricultural experience with Rachel Fishback’s passion for interviewing people and creating video content that makes industry information accessible, interesting and easy to share.
