Indiana Pig Farmer Wins

National Pork Board Appointment

At the recent National Pork Forum, Alayne Johnson, Columbia City, Indiana, received the top votes for an appointment to the National Pork Board of Directors.

“It’s an honor to represent America’s 60,000 pork producers on the Board of Directors,” said Johnson. “I look forward to serving a second term and continuing our work to strengthen and protect the industry for generations to come.”

Alayne is part-owner of Shady Grove Farms, a diversified crop and livestock operation. The Johnson family has been raising hogs in northeastern Indiana for many generations. Alayne served as a National Pork Board director for three years, including one year as treasurer. She also served on the Policy and Elections Committee, Research and Project Management Committee, recently chaired the Strategic Planning Task Force, and continues to serve on the Human Nutrition Task Force. Alayne also serves on the Indiana Pork Board of Directors and serves on the promotions committee as well as serving as president of her county Farm Bureau, participating in many Indiana Farm Bureau activities. She and her husband, Mark, live just west of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and have three children. They believe strongly in working to protect the future of agriculture and hope that those efforts will give generations to come the opportunity to produce nutritious and sustainable food.

The National Pork Board is comprised of 15 pork producers or importers, nominated by Pork Act Delegates at the National Pork Forum and appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

The board collects the National Pork Checkoff funds and uses those dollars to implement programs of promotion, research and consumer information designed to enhance the marketing of U.S. pork and pork products.
