Baby Pigs Arrive at Maine’s Fryeburg Fair, Giving Visitors a Close-Up Look at Agriculture

Date:

FRYEBURG, Maine — Newborn piglets are capturing the attention of fairgoers at the Fryeburg Fair in Maine, where visitors have an opportunity to see baby pigs and experience agricultural traditions firsthand. The annual event, known as “Maine’s Blue Ribbon Classic,” brings together livestock exhibitions, farming demonstrations, competitions and family entertainment while celebrating the state’s agricultural heritage.

Founded in 1851, the Fryeburg Fair is operated by the West Oxford Agricultural Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting agriculture. The fair has a long history of bringing farmers, livestock exhibitors and the public together to showcase the animals, skills and traditions that remain an important part of rural communities.

Newborn Piglets Bring Agriculture to Life

Among the fair’s livestock attractions are baby pigs being born, giving visitors an opportunity to see newborn piglets and learn more about swine production. For families and children who may not have a direct connection to farming, seeing young livestock up close provides a memorable introduction to agriculture and the animals raised on farms. Hemond Farms welcomed 11 piglets to the Swine Barn.

The piglets are part of a larger agricultural experience that includes pigs, cattle, oxen, horses, goats, sheep, poultry and rabbits. These exhibits give visitors a chance to explore different types of livestock and gain a greater appreciation for the farmers and agricultural families who care for these animals.

Celebrating More Than 175 Years of Agricultural Traditions

The Fryeburg Fair features a wide variety of activities highlighting Maine’s agricultural history and rural traditions. Visitors can experience livestock competitions, horse pulls, horse racing, show horses, Woodsmen’s Field Day, Firemen’s Muster and the Grand Parade.

In addition to its agricultural exhibits, the fair offers carnival rides, food vendors, entertainment and activities for visitors of all ages. The combination of livestock education, traditional competitions and family attractions makes the event an opportunity for the public to connect with agriculture while enjoying a longstanding Maine tradition.

Agricultural fairs like Fryeburg provide an important connection between farmers and consumers, allowing visitors to see farm animals firsthand and learn more about the agricultural industry. For the pork industry, exhibits featuring sows and newborn piglets can help introduce the next generation to pig farming and spark conversations about animal care and pork production.

Visitors can find additional information, daily schedules and fair updates at www.fryeburgfair.org or follow Fryeburg Fair on Facebook and Instagram for photos, announcements and updates from the fairgrounds.

The Fryeburg Fair runs October 4–11, 2026, at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds in Fryeburg, Maine.
