Washington County Pork Producers to Give Away 1,000 Free Pork Burger Meals for National Pork Month
WASHINGTON, Iowa — October is National Pork Month, and the Washington County Pork Producers are kicking off the celebration by serving 1,000 free pork burger meals to the community.
The free meal giveaway will take place Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Washington, Iowa.
Meals will be distributed drive-thru style, allowing families to stop by, pick up a pork burger meal and help celebrate the farmers and pork industry that play an important role in Washington County and across Iowa.
Celebrating National Pork Month
October has long been recognized as an opportunity to celebrate pork producers and highlight the people involved in raising pigs and bringing pork from the farm to consumers.
In Washington County, pork production is an important part of the local agricultural community. The Oct. 1 event gives area residents an opportunity to enjoy pork while connecting National Pork Month directly to the farmers and families who help produce it.
The Washington County Pork Producers plan to serve up to 1,000 meals free of charge during the two-hour event.
