Christensen Farms Offers Finance Internship for College Students

Date:

SLEEPY EYE, Minn. — College students interested in finance, data analysis and agriculture have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the pork industry through a finance internship with Christensen Farms.

The 10-week internship is scheduled to run from the end of May through the first week of August and is designed to give students experience working in a corporate environment while learning how financial planning and analysis support an agricultural business.

Interns will have exposure to senior executives and participate in financial and performance analysis, benchmarking and special projects designed to support business results.

Hands-On Experience in Pork Industry Finance

The finance internship gives students an opportunity to work with large amounts of data and turn that information into meaningful financial analysis.

Responsibilities include conducting cost-benefit, performance and benchmark analyses, along with assisting on special projects and other assignments.

Interns will also gain insight into the financial side of a company operating within the pork industry, providing experience that connects classroom finance concepts with real-world agricultural business decisions.

Because the position involves access to financial information, interns are expected to handle sensitive and confidential information with honesty and integrity.

The internship operates during Christensen Farms’ core business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and reports to the Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis.

Who Can Apply?

The opportunity is geared toward undergraduate students pursuing a degree in finance. Applicants must be at the junior or senior level, attend an accredited local university and have a current GPA of at least 3.0.

Candidates must also be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Christensen Farms is seeking applicants with strong written and verbal communication skills, a positive attitude and an interest in developing a career in finance.

Proficiency in Microsoft products, particularly Excel, is required. Experience with SQL and Power BI is considered a plus, as is familiarity with industry terminology.

Building the Next Generation of Pork Industry Professionals

Internships can provide an entry point for college students who may not come from a traditional production agriculture background but are interested in careers supporting the pork industry.

Modern pork production relies on professionals across a wide range of disciplines, including finance, accounting, data analytics, animal care, veterinary medicine, nutrition, human resources, transportation, communications and business management.

For students interested in the intersection of finance, agriculture and pork production, the Christensen Farms internship offers an opportunity to gain corporate experience while learning more about the business behind pork production.
