Pork producers looking to improve manure pit performance may have an opportunity to test a biological solution on their own farms.

Preferred Choice Products is currently seeking pork producers interested in participating in on-farm trials of Pit Magic, a biological manure pit treatment designed to improve manure breakdown, reduce solids accumulation, and enhance overall manure management efficiency.

The company says Pit Magic utilizes specialized Bacillus bacteria and enzymes that work naturally to digest organic solids within manure storage systems. By breaking down accumulated solids, the product is designed to help reduce crusting and sludge buildup while promoting more consistent nutrient distribution throughout the pit.

According to Preferred Choice Products, the goal is to help producers achieve easier pumping, more complete pit cleanouts, improved nutrient uniformity for land application, and reduced odor concerns.

“Managing manure pits efficiently is critical for pumping performance, odor control, and nutrient consistency,” the company said in information released to producers.

Preferred Choice Products says Pit Magic may provide several benefits for pork operations, including reducing solids, crusting, and sludge buildup, improving pumpability, supporting more complete pit cleanouts, naturally reducing odors, and helping maintain more consistent nutrient levels throughout the manure storage system.

Unlike some manure treatment products, Pit Magic is a 100% biological solution and contains no harsh chemicals or acids. The company says the product is safe for livestock, equipment, and workers while remaining compatible with all manure handling systems. In addition, Preferred Choice Products notes the treatment will not negatively impact nitrogen value or manure nutrients.

The recommended application rate is one pound of product per 30,000 gallons of manure.

Pork producers interested in evaluating the product’s performance on their own operations are encouraged to discuss trial opportunities directly with the company.

For more information about Pit Magic or to discuss a trial opportunity, producers can contact Jim and Randie directly or visit the Preferred Choice Products website.
