Chad Martin, second from right, joins Governor Braun and other industry leaders at the signing of HEA 1098.

Indiana Pork is continuing to support career development opportunities for students interested in the pork industry and agriculture careers. Earlier this month, Indiana Pork’s Chad Martin joined Mike Braun as he signed HEA 1098 into law. The legislation is aimed at strengthening work-based learning programs across Indiana by creating clearer guidelines and protections for students, schools, and employers participating in career-connected education opportunities.

Under the new law, schools and employers participating in work-based learning programs must establish formal agreements outlining responsibilities, insurance coverage, and workplace expectations for students. HEA 1098 also ensures students involved in these learning experiences are properly covered under workers’ compensation laws while creating more consistent insurance standards statewide. Indiana Pork leaders say the legislation will help remove uncertainty for employers and educators while expanding opportunities for students interested in careers within the pork production, livestock, and agriculture industries.
