From legendary Texas barbecue joints to upscale dining destinations, the Texas Pork Producers Association is celebrating the restaurants turning a classic pork chop into something worth talking about.
LUBBOCK, TEXAS – In a state famous for its barbecue, bold flavors, and love of a good meal, the pork chop is getting its moment in the spotlight. The Texas Pork Producers Association (TPPA) has announced ten finalists for its inaugural Texas Best Pork Chop Competition, bringing together some of the Lone Star State’s favorite restaurants in a delicious search for the ultimate pork chop.
Whether it’s perfectly grilled, expertly seasoned, or served with a chef’s signature twist, a great pork chop has a way of making an impression. And judging by the response from Texas diners, there’s no shortage of restaurants getting it right.
More than 400 Texans submitted nominations during August, recognizing 16 restaurants across the state for their standout pork chop dishes. From the smoky traditions of Texas barbecue to the creativity of contemporary kitchens, the competition celebrates the versatility of pork and the chefs who know how to make it shine.
The ten finalists represent a flavorful journey across Texas. In Houston, Cafe Benedicte earned a spot alongside Haywire, which also has locations in Plano and Dallas. Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano brings its Texas barbecue heritage to the competition, while Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House in Benbrook and Josephine Street in San Antonio add their names to the list.
Other contenders include Kindling Texas Kitchen in Cibolo, Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill in Austin, Pignetti’s Italian Restaurant in Temple, and Wunsche Bros Cafe & Saloon in Spring. Rounding out the finalists is Sixty Vines, with Texas locations in Dallas, Plano, Austin, Houston, The Woodlands, and San Antonio.

“The support for our first year of the competition has been incredible,” said Laura Jimenez, consumer marketing specialist for TPPA. “Each finalist serves a unique pork chop dish that celebrates the versatility and flavor of pork.”
A panel of judges will anonymously visit each finalist restaurant, evaluating the pork chops on taste, tenderness, creativity, presentation, and the overall dining experience. It’s not simply about who can cook a great pork chop, but who can create a dish that leaves diners wanting to come back for another.
Now comes the delicious part: Texas diners will have a say, too. Public voting is open through October 25 in three categories: People’s Choice, Best Fine Dining Pork Chop, and Best Casual Dining Pork Chop. The combination of public votes and judges’ evaluations will help determine which restaurant takes home the inaugural title of Texas’ Best Pork Chop.
And the winning restaurant will have plenty to celebrate. Along with statewide recognition, the winning chef will receive an engraved chef’s knife sponsored by Zwilling and a commemorative plaque. The restaurant will also receive an official winner window decal and digital badge, plus recognition through TPPA’s marketing channels. The winning chef will take on the role of Official Texas Pork Chef Ambassador for one year.
Each finalist will also be recognized throughout October on the association’s website and social media, receiving a special window decal and digital badge to commemorate the achievement.
Beyond the friendly competition, the Texas Best Pork Chop contest is a celebration of the farmers who raise quality pork, the chefs who bring it to the table, and the restaurants that make pork a memorable part of the dining experience.
For Texans who appreciate a beautifully prepared pork chop, there’s never been a better excuse to explore the state’s restaurant scene, discover a new favorite, and support the people behind the plate.
Voting closes October 25. Visit the Texas Pork Producers Association for more information about the finalists and how to cast your vote.
