High school students interested in agriculture, animal science, and the pork industry will have an opportunity to explore the world of swine production without ever leaving their classrooms.
The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center, with sponsorship from the LEAP Foundation, is offering a free virtual Swine Industry Experience on October 28–29, 2026, designed to introduce students in grades 9–12 to the different stages of pork production.
The educational program provides students with an inside look at how pigs are raised, cared for, and managed throughout the production cycle. Through live virtual instruction, interactive question-and-answer sessions, fact sheets, and real-world case scenarios, students will gain a better understanding of the work involved in producing pork.
Teachers can choose between two one-hour sessions: Breeding and Gestation and Farrow to Finish. Classrooms may participate in either session or complete both, scheduling them back-to-back on the same day or on separate days.
The program is designed to align with high school academic standards and offers educators additional resources to bring agricultural education into the classroom. Participating teachers will also receive a free lesson plan kit to help students build on what they learn during the virtual experience.
For students considering careers in agriculture, animal science, veterinary medicine, or livestock production, the experience offers an opportunity to learn more about the pork industry and the many responsibilities involved in raising pigs.
Participation and classroom lesson materials are completely free. Sessions will be delivered live through Zoom from the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Participating classrooms will need an internet connection, a compatible device, camera, microphone, and speakers.
The Swine Industry Experience is another way to connect the next generation with agriculture, helping students better understand where their food comes from and the people who work every day to raise livestock.
